Among the most popular collection challenges is tracking down all the elusive flying keys scattered throughout the different wings of the school. Successfully collecting these magical objects unlocks unique regional house cabinets that hold the tokens required to open the massive house chest in your common room.
Starting the Quest and the First Wing Locations
To begin this scavenger hunt, you need to speak with a Gryffindor student named Nellie Oggspire in the Transfiguration Courtyard. She will introduce the history of the keys and point you directly toward the first one located in the Astronomy Tower. After finding the initial key near the top of the tower, follow it down to the nearby classroom cabinet to learn the basic puzzle mechanics.
Several other keys are hidden within the central parts of the castle structure to keep your journey moving smoothly. For instance, exploring the Defense Against the Dark Arts Tower will reveal a key fluttering near a massive rhino skeleton. Another key can be spotted floating amidst the massive bookshelves inside the Library, which quickly leads to a cabinet hidden nearby.
Uncovering Secrets in the Central Hall and Dungeons
The Central Hall holds multiple keys that require a keen ear and careful observation of your surroundings. One key is located down the main stairs near the large fountain area, while another rests hidden right beneath the staircase leading toward the Viaduct Entrance. Casting the Revelio charm frequently will highlight the glowing blue cabinets through the walls to help you track their final destinations.
Descending deeper into the school reveals the dark corridors of the dungeons where two more keys await discovery. You can spot the first dungeon key floating directly next to a large statue of a sleeping dragon. Following the corridor past this point leads toward an open room filled with storage barrels where the next key resides.
Accessing Restricted Late Game Areas
While many keys are accessible immediately, reaching the final areas requires advancing through the main storyline to unlock essential spells. Specifically, you must complete the Caretaker Quest to learn Alohomora, which allows access into locked portions of the Faculty Tower. Once inside the tower, you can find a key inside the hallway filled with giant clock cogs.
The remaining keys are located near the Great Hall and the outer courtyards of the castle grounds. You can track one down near the large fireplace in the Great Hall, which flies up the stairs toward a cabinet in the corridor outside. Another key requires exploring the Clock Tower Courtyard, where you must head up the wooden staircases to find the key waiting near the upper platforms.
Claiming Your Final House Rewards
After finding all sixteen tokens, return to your house common room to place them inside the ornate golden chest. Depositing the complete set will open the lock and reward you with a magnificent Relic House Uniform appearance option. This exclusive cloak features glowing magical designs that dynamically illuminate whenever your character casts spells in dark environments.
